28 Dec Learn From The Past Prepare For The Future
As the year winds down, it is only natural to begin making plans for the New Year.
Here at FTGI, we are very future-oriented. We are always looking forward and asking ourselves “what’s next?” This New Year season, however, before leaping into our planning, we have taken time to reflect on 2018.
Here are two questions we’ve asked ourselves, and we encourage you to do the same for all the different areas of your life.
What worked in 2018? And… What didn’t?
It seems ridiculously simple, doesn’t it? Simple and yet, at times, we are so quick to move on to what’s next that we miss the valuable lessons to be learned from the past.
Learn from the past to prepare for your future.
It’s true that you cannot change the past. There may have been some bumps in the road or even some epic failures this year that you would rather forget. Reflecting on them and figuring out what needs to be done to avoid making the same mistakes again can be a game-changer for you. There is nothing you can do to change what has happened, but you can avoid patterns that you may be repeating.
On the other hand, you may have put some practices into place that served you well. Bring those things into 2019 with you and build upon your successes!
One of our greatest lessons this year is we have realized the value of waiting for God to direct our path before running ahead with our own plans. When God is quiet, it is so tempting to try to figure out things on our own. Taking time to be still and wait this past summer was hard, but in retrospect we can now see how He was working behind the scenes on our behalf, setting us up for what lies ahead.
We are convinced and can say with confidence that THERE IS MORE in 2019.
In these last few days of 2018, we encourage you to take inventory of all that has been and all you hope for in 2019. We will be praying for clarity for you. We will also be praying that you can rest in the knowledge that your heavenly Father holds your future in His capable hands.
Wishing you love, joy, and peace this New Year.
