More Love

What the World Needs Now

“What the world needs now, is love sweet love,

It’s the only thing that there is just too little of.

What the world needs now is love, sweet love,

No not just for some but for everyone!”

Even if you are not as old as I am, you have probably heard that song, maybe in a movie or on an oldies station on the radio.

It’s been playing in my head over the past few days. As it turns out, it came out the year I was born. That makes it over fifty years old! Fifty-three years later, and the message is as relevant today as it was then.

Being a child of the ’60s and ’70s gave me a bent towards being a bit of a hippie, but I do believe that LOVE IS THE ANSWER to all that ails this broken world.

It is easy to be overwhelmed by the division in our country and the injustices we read in our nation and abroad. It is hard to know where to begin to make a difference.

It is always a good idea to begin with love.

It could be a big thing or a seemingly small thing, but if you pray and keep your heart open, God will show you ways in which you can be love to someone within your sphere of influence. It may be for a family member right in your own home, or it may be for a stranger, but there are ways every day to make an impact in the world by loving the people around you.

Following your God-given instinct to love is always an adventure and will most likely cost you something, but the rewards are priceless.

Make someone a meal, visit someone who is sick, write an encouraging note, volunteer somewhere. When you show love in small ways, the nudges may get stronger and scarier but follow them anyway. Where God leads you, He will guide you and provide for you.

When my husband and I started feeling the nudge to adopt, before we could do anything about it, we started opening ourselves up to opportunities to love children. One weekend we cared for a foster baby while his foster parents were out of town. The love we shared with that sweet boy that weekend took root in our hearts and began preparing our hearts for our daughter and eventually led us halfway around the world.

Start small. Love right from where you are. You won’t have to go far to find someone in need of love.

Thanks for the LOVE!
